Lumen Program: Culture Book (literary part)

Philosophy of the program
Starting with 2012, Lumen Program Culture Book (literary part) is part of the Crystal Book Program.

Lumen Program Culture Book is part of the editorial strategy of Lumen Publishing House since 2006. In the first two years pre-selection was made within the publishing house, from authors who participated in other programs of Lumen Publishing House. In the last five years a total of 29 volumes were funded by the National Cultural Fund Administration (A.F.C.N.).

The books accepted for publication by Lumen Publishing House will be proposed for financing by AFCN. National Cultural Fund Administration may grant financing between 30-90% of the editorial costs. The difference between the cost of publication and costs covered by AFCN will be subsidized by authors or by other sponsors brought by them. Lumen Publishing House does not cover from its own funds the co-financing of these volumes within this sub-program. If A.F.C.N. does not accept funding, the volumes accepted by Lumen Publishing House will appear with full funding from the author or other sources.

Strategic priorities of A.F.C.N. established by the Council Administration focus on projects dedicated to:

  • Stimulation of critical editions
  • Encouraging debut works
  • Stimulation of issues of reference titles and professional publications
  • Stimulation of issues of niche specialized publications
  • Encouraging editorial quality

The domains in which Lumen Publishing House accepts a book as literary part of Lumen Program Culture Book are:

  • Dramaturgy
  • Short prose
  • Novel

Volume categories admitted to selection: plays whose author had a previous debut, individual volume of short prose, novels, memoirs, diary, essays, biographies.

All works proposed within this program are accepted after a peer review process.

The volume or research proposed to editing must necessarily use international bibliography of reference, mainly in English with a share of at least 30% of total references, from which at least two titles are indicated to come from ISI publications. Citing books previously published in our Publishing House or articles published in scientific journals by Lumen is mandatory and indicates the interest of the author in Lumen Publishing House and justifies his choice to publish his research.

The period of selection of works occurs between January and April.

The edition proposed to publishing contains 500-1000 copies depending on both the authors’ opinion and the impact estimation made by our specialists.

The purpose: Promoting the Romanian cultural specificity in the European context through books. In the spirit of promoting excellence in research and cultural creation, Lumen Publishing House makes an open selection of volumes to be proposed for financing to state institutions with attributions in the culture domain (AFCN).

Conditions for participation, besides the general ones of Lumen Publishing House that you will find here. The autors who wish to participate to this selection must send the following information via e-mail at prlumen@gmail.com:

  • a short presentation of the volume (approximately 3- 4 pages);
  • 2 referincee for the proposed volume (optional);
  • the summary/ content of the proposed volume;
  • significant fragments from the volume, carefully selected by the author in order to be juried by both Lumen Publishing House reviewers and A.F.C.N. experts;
  • the full version of the volume proposed for financing (this will not be sent to A.F.C.N., it will just be analyzed by Lumen Publishing House reviewers). Please note that Lumen Publishing House guarantees confidentiality over unpublished manuscripts!
  • a statement on the author’s responsibility regarding the copyrights of the volume;
  • a statement according to which the volume is already fully completed and has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication to another publishing house in this country or abroad;
  • to avoid double financing from public funds, authors who have volumes within doctoral or posdoctoral programs will send a statement according to which they have not previously published significant parts of this volume, including in scientific journals or paper works presented at conferences, whose appearance was subsidized from public funds;
  • in case of acceptance towards financing, the author must agree for the transfer of copyright to the publisher through copies of the volume.

Lack of any of the information mentioned above leads to stagnation of the editorial analysis by reviewers until the full existence of the required information. Our specialists (academics and experienced researchers) will assess the volume sent for participation at the selection organized by A.F.C.N. and they will send to authors the response after the evaluation of all manuscripts from this category.

In case of an affirmative answer from A.F.C.N., you will have to go through the following steps:

  • Signing the editorial contract;
  • The complete final version of the volume after the author received and took into consideration the suggestions offered by our peer-reviewers;
  • Framing the volume;
  • Making the paging;
  • Making the cover;

  • Giving ISBN and CIP;
