The volume Chateaubriand entre L’Essai sur les révolutions et Le Génie du christianisme: l’apparition d’une conscience chrétienne by Diana MITE, published at Lumen Publishing House, proposes to analyze the specificity of the Christian conscience in the early works of Chateaubriand. The author starts by making some preliminary clarifications with respect to the notion of „face of Providence”. In the most significant works of his youth, the Essay on Revolutions (1797) and The Genius of Christianity (1802), Chateaubriand is, for practical or spiritual reasons, in constant search of the divine face. The book proposes to analyze the „face of Providence”, as they appear in these works, while taking into account their conceptual specificity and their possible relation or disparity with the Cristian paradigm. Indeed, the divine identity appears as a recurrinf theme, even if the works in question are not conceived as theoretical treatises on God.
